If your Start menu isn’t working, these fixes should do the trick. That being said, more than a year after launch, it's still a long way from being perfect, and among the pile of peculiarities is its talent for throwing up brain-scratching bugs. Many problems with Windows come down to corrupt files, and Start menu issues are no exception.
Let it run, and if you see the message "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them", it's found some errors.
Everything in Windows 10 worked perfectly for just 3 or 4 days after upgrading from 8.1.
Yesterday I wanted to use the search feature, so I press win s and get the error "Critical Error: Your Start menu isn't working.
Never had an issue with anything like this until relatively recently, though I can't place one particular event as being definitive.
It may have been like this for even longer and I wouldn't have known until a few things updated anyway.
One of the worst of these is a tendency for the Start menu to stop working. To fix this, launch the Task Manager either by right-clicking on the task bar and selecting Task Manager, or hitting Ctrl Alt Delete.
