My 12 year old daughter has asked me when she can start dating.Let's just say that I was sort of a goody two shoes and didn't want to upset my parents. I am now a mother of a 12 year old daughter and a 10 year old son.i would say 16 is the PERFECT age to go on actual dates.1) you can drive 2) you have a TON more freedom 3) you can actually pay for things rather than your parents I probably wouldn't bother until around 15 / 16..............My husband and I have been discussing the answer to our daughter's question and we just don't know the right answer.I don't want to be overly protective and strict like my parents were but I also don't want to be too permissive.By the way, my husband was a late bloomer and started dating at 19. A Confused Mother Dear Mother, I completely understand why you are confused.
Crushes can begin as early as elementary school, but most kids don’t think about “going out” until middle school.
It is supposed to be fun and adventurous, and if you keep an open mind and stay patient you'll be meeting new dates in no time.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, kids are starting to date earlier than ever before, with the average age 12-and-a-half for girls and 13-and-a-half for boys.
Being a parent means committing to guide your child through many complicated and difficult stages of life.
You go from changing their diapers, to teaching them how to tie their shoes, to eventually helping them understand dating and love.
Discuss with your children what it means to “go out” with someone, and ask yourself whether your son or daughter is mature enough to deal with the emotional aspects of a relationship.
