The fuller prohibition has come partly from a desire to keep as far as possible away from something that is spoken of with such serious warning in scripture. As our society has become more numerous and diverse, it has become more repulsive to us to marry close to family. Cousins usually share a common set of grandparents (though it can be only one grandparent) and one-half of the genetic pool.It has also become a joke to put down those who were considered to be from the sticks--that is, rural folks who did not know any better. Second cousins usually share a common set of great-grandparents and one-fourth of the genetic pool.If you answered “yes” to the above questions, then 1 Corinthians 13 says that you truly have a loving relationship. If you answered “no” to any of the above questions, then maybe you should discuss those issues with your boyfriend or girlfriend.I held him and would not let him go till I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the room of the one who conceived me.” —Song of Solomon 3:4Strength In Love Love also encapsulates the storms of life; it can’t escape them, and so both of your love will stand strong, or will be hurt. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.Forgiveness and showing love can be hard at times, and even may seem impossible, but do it. If God brought you two together, fight for one another, believe in one another.“There are three things that amaze me—no, four things that I don’t understand: how an eagle glides through the sky, how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman.” —Proverbs -19Sacrificial Love Love is sacrificial. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Technically, this does not prohibit marriage to cousins.
I can't find anything in the Bible about this subject, but we are taught that it is not right to date your family.
I am having a problem with this because my child is dating my 3rd cousin, and in my heart I feel it is wrong. The following verses in Leviticus eighteen give a list of those who are too close of kin to marry.
When you read most Christian dating books, one of the key pieces of counsel they provide is to “guard your heart.” They establish that guarding your heart is an essential component of correctly pursuing any dating relationship.
The verse they generally appeal to is Proverbs , which says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” However, these generalized calls to guard your heart in the midst of dating fall short in three ways: How do you guard your heart?
od wants the best for us in every area of our lives.
