Hello, heres the entire thing as it happened: I had AVG 9 and it kep asking me to update to the 2011 version (Free Antivirus), so I finally did update it, however, whenever AVG wanted to update the virus defenition, it gave an error "update failed - a file is missing", so what I decided to do is to uninstall AVG and then re-install it, however, upon uninstallation, this error came up:"severity:errorerror code:0x C0070643Error message: General Internal Error Additional Message: The removal of product failed Context: Uninstallation of AVG"I later discovered that the AVG antivirus was uninstalled and it was AVG linkscanner that was still stuck in my computer, whenever I try to uninstall it, that same error appears (seveerity: error....)Also, as more of a problem, now, whenever I start my PC, AVG linkscanner would always prompt for reboot saying that the update proccess must be completed by rebooting the computer.
I went with it the first couple of times and it still gives me that same prompt every 60 minutes.
" When I click on 'Reinstall', it would go online and download a good 55 MB or so. I do have a Clonezilla dump of the Windows 7 partition, before the upgrade. Silly me, I didn't look for a AVG Remover myself.
After that, while trying to install, it would ask 'Repair' or 'Uninstall'. I am wondering whether I would have to restore it for the sake of a simple antivirus installation issue.
Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid Error 0x E0018D32 keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional.
So i've just built a new computer and have installed kaspersky internet security, but when i try to do a database update it goes to 2% complete and doesn't go any further. Kaspersky is nowadays the best internet security software on the market. Even then, reality is Norton is just as good if not any superior to Kaspersky and quite honestly I would blindly trust Norton Security, Mc Afee, Trend Micro, F-Secure kind of more established organisation over some 3rd party so called internet security suit bullshit like Kaspersky, Avast, Eset or Bit Defender garbage etc.
I've tried looking for an answer, but i can't find one, so hopefully someone here knows what is happening? and yes, you shouldn't use two internet security software at the same time. I wouldn't advice you to use Norton or any free internet security software. And just for the record I have used both Norton and Kaspersky and this whole high resource utilization thing about Norton is an utter nonsense since I have hardly noticed any difference with the performance from start up to the running of multiple process smoothly.
Know that you will most likely never even encounter most of these so-called threats, reality is that a computer can do just fine without any antivirus installed in the system unless you are some sleazy pervert who likes to surf a lot of adult streaming websites or risky websites to download cracks, patches, sql injections for hacking and what not.
All these high percentage malware and virus detection rate is a marketing gimmick to sell the software.
The first time a tried to do it, it came up with a message saying that there was a bad image in the win32or something. They told me to write in update source page in menu. As a matter of fact as time passed after the installation of Kaspersky, it started to take a toll on my ram usage but Norton remained constant with it's good performance so eat your own words and do some research on your own before you jump on the band wagon of these marketing gimmicks fanboy. I think I may try Trend Micro or some other software once my licence expires in 382 days.
